Sunrise is one of my favorite times to photograph. The sky lightens up and the rising sun causes all sorts of colors to paint the clouds. This photograph was made on such a day that the sky had a range of colors from yellow to orange to purple. That sky reflected on the water of Shem Creek near Charleston South Carolina.
I have been shooting pictures since high school when I purchased a used twin-lens reflex camera from a teacher. Since that time I have maintained an interest in photographing places and things. Several years ago I began writing travel articles for various magazines and newspapers. That provided the opportunity to visit many scenic and unusual places. It has made me realize how beautiful the United States, and particularly my home state of Tennessee, is. My techniques are simple. Nothing fancy. That would probably detract from the work's intended purpose. I have used several formats: 35mm, 6 x 7, and now digital. From the resulting images for art shows, I select the most appealing.
