This photograph was made at the fishing village of Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia Canada.
Peggy's Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margarets Bay near Halifax and is the site of Peggys Cove Lighthouse. From its inception, the community's economy revolved around fishery. However, tourism began to overtake fishing in economic importance following the Second World War. Today, Peggy's Cove is a major tourist attraction, although its inhabitants still fish for lobster, and the community maintains a rustic undeveloped appearance.
One of the most photographed spots in the whole country, most people associate Peggy’s Cove with its lighthouse, a beacon has guided sailors and fishermen since 1868.
I have been shooting pictures since high school when I purchased a used twin-lens reflex camera from a teacher. Since that time I have maintained an interest in photographing places and things. Several years ago I began writing travel articles for various magazines and newspapers. That provided the opportunity to visit many scenic and unusual places. It has made me realize how beautiful the United States, and particularly my home state of Tennessee, is. My techniques are simple. Nothing fancy. That would probably detract from the work's intended purpose. I have used several formats: 35mm, 6 x 7, and now digital. From the resulting images for art shows, I select the most appealing.
